AION 2 Review — What the First Hours Are Actually Like

Verified: 2026-09-30 — a single sponsored playtest video, labeled

Short answer: yes, with one honest limit. AION 2’s first hours earned a 7/10 for combat in the playtest’s most-watched first-impressions review, the leveling ride is genuinely fun, and the game is free to try from October 5. The same review dings the camera, the seconds-long flight and the mobile-style UI — and its author never reached endgame, so treat this as a first-hours verdict, not a final score.

AION 2 beginner tips: what to know before your first hour

The practical basics first, because they frame every impression below: AION 2 is free to play, PC-only, and launches globally on October 5, 2026 — with early access from September 30 for Founder’s Pack buyers. The dates are the officially announced ones; everything about how the game feels comes from the September playtest, one first-impressions video at a time.

  • Faction is story, not class. Elyos or Asmodians shapes your starting zone and narrative; all eight classes are open to both sides.
  • No auto-combat. Auto-pathing walks you to objectives and combat takes over when enemies arrive — battles stay manual.
  • Ping is real. The global cooldown is short and dodge windows are tight; a 100 ms connection was already felt, melee worst of all.
  • Spend skill points freely. Skills unlock by level by default, points only upgrade ranks, and resetting costs nothing.
  • Alts skip the tutorial — observed in the playtest (community-reported).
  • Install early. Pre-download opened September 28 and the files decrypt on September 30 — the steps are in our AION 2 download guide.

Pick a class (don’t marry the DPS charts)

There are no verified DPS charts for AION 2 — any site publishing class rankings before October 5 is guessing, and ours says so plainly on the AION 2 tier list. Pick by feel instead: the eight-class roster spans tank, melee and ranged DPS, summoner, healer and a hybrid support, and the full breakdown of roles and weapons is on the AION 2 classes hub.

The one first-hand data point: the reviewer leveled a Sorcerer and found big area-of-effect pulls the most fun part of the route, then tried Assassin late and liked the early melee feel — but dropped the idea over latency. Chanter struck him as a do-everything support with no standout. Group content wants exactly one tank and one healer, whichever class fills the slot.

What the first testers liked

All ten points below come from a single source: the most-watched first-impressions video of the September 2026 global playtest. That is one reviewer’s opinion, not a meta-review — but it is also the only large-scale hands-on available before launch, and we label it as such.

What the first AION 2 testers praised
AreaWhat was said
CombatRated 7/10 — fast cooldowns and flashy skills made it the review's biggest positive surprise, even while calling the moment-to-moment play spammy
Character creationMore freedom than expected: extensive face presets and sliders, Korean-MMO craftsmanship on full display
The leveling loopThe story is constantly interrupted by rewarding world content — Sealed Dungeons, collectibles, events, treasures and Regional Quests
Growth feelConstant gear and skill upgrades through the leveling window — a rare exception to the linear theme-park grind the reviewer usually hates
Visual styleA distinct theme with extremely vivid colors that lands as genuinely beautiful in places
UICustomization held up well for a launch build
Music and soundBoth scored well across the eight hours
MMO scaleHundreds of players visible in the same starting zone — with the honest caveat that crowd scenes dropped the frame rate below 30 in the build
Hourly mini-gamesTimed party events with real rewards — a change of pace between grind sessions
Content varietyEnough breadth that both PvE and PvP players had things to do

What the first testers didn’t like

The criticisms live on this page — and only this page. Guide and system pages here stay to verifiable mechanics, so when a claim below shapes how you play (flight stamina, for example), the relevant guide marks the same numbers community-reported rather than repeating the opinion as fact.

What the first AION 2 testers criticized
AreaWhat was said
Mobile-style feelCamera, movement, UI, text and auto-pathing read as mobiley at the start — sometimes cheap, not like a true PC MMO
Flight staminaThe series' signature feature runs out in seconds — still around 20 at level 31 in the build (numbers community-reported)
Camera and FOVZoom is bound to field of view — pull in and the world narrows; no FOV slider, and the reviewer's single biggest complaint
Screenshot modeCharacter locked to center, no camera panning, few options — the worst he had used in a Korean MMO
Quest bossesStory bosses with dedicated cinematics die in a few hits — a spectacle with no fight in it
P2W trustNot a current complaint but a stated one: distrust that NCSoft will keep the game from drifting pay-to-win over time

Two of those complaints have their own pages now: the flight-stamina numbers, and what they mean for travel and combat, are laid out in the AION 2 flying guide, and the pay-to-win question gets both sides — NCSOFT’s stated position and the community’s — in the free-to-play breakdown.

Is AION 2 worth playing?

The first-hours verdict: play until it stops being fun, then leave — that was the reviewer’s own recommendation, and it comes with the disclaimer this page will keep until endgame is actually playable: the playtest never opened endgame, so nothing here scores the level cap and beyond. What the first hours do establish is that everyone gets several hours of genuine fun on the way there, for free.

What would change the verdict: a camera fix — the reviewer said it would erase half his complaints on its own — flight that lasts longer than a few seconds, and evidence on the pay-to-win question as the shop and Daeva Pass go live. All three are checkable in the first week after October 5.

AION 2 beginner guide FAQ

Do you need the Founder's Pack to play AION 2?

No. AION 2 is free to play from the October 5, 2026 global launch — the Founder's Pack only buys entry to the September 30–October 4 early-access window, plus cosmetic and convenience items. Everything in this review's first-hours verdict applies to the free client.

Was this review paid for by NCSOFT?

No. The first-impressions video behind this page is an independent creator's playtest coverage that contains a separate paid sponsor segment (a gaming accelerator brand, not NCSOFT). We label the material as a single sponsored source for exactly that reason, and every claim on this page carries that framing.

Which server region should a beginner pick?

The playtest ran five regions: NA East, NA West, Europe, South America and Asia. Latency matters immediately — the global cooldown is short and dodge windows are tight, and melee felt it worst. Pick the region nearest to you and re-check the live server list at launch.

When does a full review replace first impressions?

The creator plans a full review a few weeks after launch, after touching endgame — which the playtest build never opened. Our own class rankings follow the same rule: the tier list stays pending launch until real match and dungeon data exists.

Sold on the first hours? The AION 2 leveling guide turns the review’s leveling praise into an actual route — what gives the most XP and what to never skip. Both guides, and everything else we publish, are indexed in our AION 2 guides hub.
